In this Instructor Course you will learn to
· Manage a safe COPE experience for youth members
· Apply facilitation skills to improve teamwork
· Support participants throughout their COPE experience
· Become proficient in all the COPE Events and Elements
· Further develop your own self-confidence and self-awareness.
COPE Instructor Course Progression: On Friday evening, meet at the Camp Pigott COPE Course at 6:00 PM. We will cover general information, learning theory and initiative games. On Saturday, we will cover Low COPE, Trust Events, Reflection leadership, PPE, and introduction to the High Course. On Sunday, we will be back on the High Course, plus rescues, emergencies, documentation, leadership, equipment care, and next steps.
What to Bring: Your own basic camping kit plus 10 Essentials, including raingear and comfortable clothes to be outdoors for the entire weekend. You will sleep in camp shelters, so a tent is not necessary. Check the weather prior to coming to camp to ensure you are prepared.
This course can be used towards BSA COPE & Climbing Instructor Certification. Requirements for certification:
· Current BSA membership
· Demonstrate instructor proficiency
· Show high levels of physical fitness, dependability and good judgment
· Complete the COPE/Climbing Instructor Course
· Staff three days of COPE/climbing events
· Earn the Instructor Certification of Competency
· Standard First Aid or higher and CPR training is strongly recommended.
