The Center Builds Adventure Leaders

The Center provides the inspiration, training, and support for adults, ages 18-80, to lead challenging outdoor adventures for young people.

The Ride is a two-month demonstration of Adventure Leader Best Practices, as shown by our director, whose pursuit of an epic adventure will model how to prepare for, engage, and adapt to the challenges faced on each new day of a real-time adventure. Mark will report daily on his experiences, with posts to social media and this website, to share his ah-hahs, setbacks and successes.

The Ride will showcase preparation, resolve, trials and growth that anyone can experience by just taking that first step, pushing a pedal or dipping a paddle.

The Praxis of Adventure

In adventure travel, the stakes are real. Action (Practice) must be backed by very good thinking (Theory, Design, Clear Intention). We call this Praxis.

The ride across America demonstrates how anyone, you included, can do exceptional things, by taking action informed by your best thinking. Mark is a typical, well-past-his-prime, achy and self-doubting person just like everybody else. But he has good ideas, does the work and learns fast, to become the version of himself who can persist, day after day, to achieve something difficult and worthwhile. Quality thinking PLUS taking the action is the winning formula of Praxis.

We All Share in the Commitment

When kids can get outside of the box, to discover their real selves in the real world, they come face to face with their own unlimited potential.

The Center for Adventure Leadership is new. It’s audacious. And it’s necessary.

The Ride provides a focus on what’s important and what’s possible, if YOU share in the commitment. You can be there for kids who want to make something big with their lives. To help them be big, we adults have to be big. It’s a commitment we have to make, together. Support the Ride.

Support Adults Who Get Kids Outside. Support The Ride.
