Hello, my name is Mark Steelquist and I am a member of the Missoula Centennial Rotary Club. Here’s our Rotary Club website: https://missoularotaryfoundation.org/centennial-rotary-club/Rotary
Interact Clubs
Rotary has a leadership program for teenagers called Interact. Interact is short for International Action. You can learn all about Interact here: https://www.rotary.org/en/get-involved/interact-clubs
Some Interact Clubs are in high schools. Others are community-based. There are more than 14,000 Interact Clubs around the world with more than 340,000 youth members. However, there is no Interact Club in Missoula. We want to change this.
Our Interact Club will feature leadership training and have elected student officers. The club will have adult mentors who are members of Rotary and community leaders in Missoula. We will organize at least one local community service project and one international service project per year. For our international project, our plan is to travel to another country to partner with a local, student-led Interact Club there. This could be in South America, Africa, Europe, or Asia. We will fundraise for the big trips, and the Rotary Club will help.
Center for Adventure Leadership
My non-profit group is the Center for Adventure Leadership. We train people to lead their own self-guided, human powered adventures. I have taken high school students to Alaska, Canada, Argentina, Nepal and Tibet. This page is on the CAL website. Take a look around our site. It’s a perfect match for Interact and Rotary.
If this is of interest to you, please email me at mark@adventureleader.org. Please copy your parent or another adult on the email so they know you are communicating with me. You can invite your friends. When I hear from you, we will discuss how to move forward with an in-person interest meeting. I would like to start the Interact Club this spring so we have a solid organization in place to grow the club when school starts again in the fall.
